Recent Bildungsbrief topics
Over the past semesters, students have developed Bildungsbriefe in very different fields, from music and creative expression to psychology, politics, education and entrepreneurship.
-
Politics, culture, psychology, education, languages - and the question of how we stay connected to the world while living in a community.
In recent semesters, students have…
organised reading circles around philosophical and political topics
prepared and accompanied a political action through music
developed a format exploring new ways of relating to love and relationships
-
Music, art, writing, performance, crafts, movement and other ways of expressing yourself. Creative practice can be a way of learning, communicating, processing experiences or simply enjoying making something together.
In recent semesters, students have…
published a poetry book
designed and sewn their own clothes
organised circus workshops
explored songwriting
built their own furniture
used journaling and artistic practices to document and reflect on their own process
-
Exploring ideas, creating your own work and finding ways to turn something you care about into reality.
In recent semesters, students have…
started a food truck with friends and built the truck themselves
developed a business idea around medicinal herb workshops and herbal products
founded and built up an association
explored what it means to create your own work and live through self-employment
-
For each semester, up to 20 young people aged 18–32 join the programme. They live together in a community and work on their Bildungsbrief, focusing either on politics or following the more traditional UniArtCity concept.
The space for this research project is provided by the non-profit organisation Institut für Kulturgestaltung e.V.
The project is led by Jonas Roth, Ronja Bunse and Paul Leo, with Michael Schoett providing supervision.
For group facilitation, workshops and individual mentoring, we invite suitable mentors and experts to contribute to the programme.

Uniartcity of Flow Hills is our newest self-directed learning oasis in the Upper Palatinate region of Germany, near the Czech border.
Our home is a former hunting museum, surrounded by nature and connected to the nearby Nature Community, an established intentional community.
Here, you shape your own learning journey: you set your own goals, find mentors, and document your personal development through the Bildungsbrief.
At the same time, you actively contribute to shaping the place, the community, and the environment around you.

Costs:
Money is an important part of our cultural exploration, and we approach it with care and responsibility.
We are aware that the financial accessibility of our educational project is a challenge, and it is an issue we are actively working to address. At the moment, our project does not receive any government funding, which means we are unable to adjust the monthly contribution.
If you would like to participate but are unable to afford the monthly fee, please feel free to reach out to us. We would be happy to explore possible solutions with you.
Bildungsbrief students contribute €350/month, or €1,600 as a one-time payment at a discounted rate. This covers the lease, energy costs, infrastructure maintenance, tools and guidance.
+ 50-90€/month for accommodation
Food costs are organised through a gift economy, in which the community collectively takes responsibility for providing food in a spirit of solidarity: everyone contributes what they can. Together, we are exploring new and more solidarity-based ways of relating to money. As a guideline, the contribution was €150/month last semester.

What our students say:
Jokima, 19
“I studied at Flow Valley during the summer semester of 2024. The time there gave me strength and a deep sense of trust — trust in myself and in us as young people, and in what we can create together. I had the opportunity to learn a lot — about living together in a community, what can make it work and what doesn’t, about my Bildungsbrief topics, but above all about myself. Thank you for creating places like this and for giving many more young people the wealth of possibilities they offer.”
Bildungsbrief topics: Music composition, choral conducting, connecting with plants & wilderness education.
“I was part of the summer semester 2025 at Flow Valley. It enriched me in so many ways. I discovered community life and ecological building for myself, met wonderful people and built a diverse network of connections. I also learned to communicate better and to understand myself better.”
Bildungsbrief topics: Nature-based craftsmanship, kitchen mandala construction, micro-cabin building & poi spinning.
Charles Simonis, 27
“At UAC of Flow Valley and later at UAC of Flow Hills, I found places and people that feel like home. Places where I am allowed to simply be, within a culture of appreciation. I feel supported and continually encouraged to truly follow my own path. For me, these are places of healing and of being able to show up as my authentic self. Places where a lot is created, where things are constantly moving, with big visions and a great capacity and potential for impact.”
Bildungsbrief topics: Health, Kung Fu, feeling at home
Ayla Czimmek, 23

No, Uniartcity currently does not provide insurance support. Each participant is responsible for arranging their own health insurance.
The team is working on possible solutions, but does not yet have the official accreditation required to provide insurance support. If needed, the team can communicate with insurance providers on behalf of participants, but there are currently no formal agreements in place.
-
The gala takes place during the final week of the semester. As part of a self-assessment, students briefly present what they have learned to invited guests, including supporters, family and friends.
Each student has around 2 minutes on stage to share what they have learned — for example, building a house, organising an event or learning a new language.
Afterwards, guests have the opportunity to connect with the students and learn more about their five-month learning journey.
The next gala will take place on 26 September 2026 at Flow Forest.
-
No, this is currently not possible. Uniartcity is not accredited as a state-recognised educational institution and does not intend to pursue such accreditation, as doing so would require significant adjustments to its vision.
There is currently no state funding available for Uniartcity, such as BAföG.
